Senior Town Planner & Town Planner - Private Sector Consultancy

Location: Bedfordshire
Hybrid: 3 days office / 2 days home
Salary (Senior): £45,000 - £50,000 (depending on experience, with flexibility for exceptional candidates)
Salary (Planner): £35,000 - £40,000 (depending on experience, with flexibility for exceptional candidates)
Employment Type: Permanent, Full‑Time
Sector: Private Sector Development Planning
Experience Required:

  • Senior: 3 - 4+ years in planning (private or public sector)
  • Planner: Graduate - 2 years’ experience

Senior Planner

Town Planner

  Who They’re Looking For

 ✔ 4+ years’ experience in planning (private / public)                                       ✔ Full UK driving license
 ✔ Strong commercial awareness                                                                   
Ability to work independently, manage time and priorities
 ✔ Energy, and a sociable, personable style
 ✔ Ability to manage projects nationally and represent professionally with clients                                                                                                              Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or eligibility for chartered status, preferable

 

 Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the full end-to-end planning process for multiple largescale projects.
  • Prepare, review, and sign off comprehensive planning reports and evidence.
  • Provide strategic planning advice to clients on complex regulatory issues.
  • Represent the consultancy publicly at planning committees, public consultations, stakeholder events, and meetings with government bodies.
  • Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary internal teams and external consultants for integrated delivery.
  • Lead and oversee submissions across the full lifecycle (preapp to postdecision conditions), with autonomy.
  • Take a leading role in planning policy documents and feasibility studies.
  • Monitor/Report on applications, appeals and activities; ensure timely actions across RIBA Stages 1-6.
  • Drive continuous improvement and foster excellence and innovation within the team.

Who They’re Looking For

Graduate Planner or up to 2 years’ experience                                            Full UK driving license
Bright, energetic, and eager to develop in a consultancy environment
Someone who can work independently and manage their time
Commercially minded and client‑focused
Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or eligibility for chartered status, preferable

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the planning process for multiple large-scale projects, ensuring quality deliverables and on‑time milestones.
  • Prepare, review and sign off planning reports and supporting documents.
  • Provide planning advice to clients to navigate regulatory matters.
  • Represent the consultancy at relevant planning forums, including public consultations, stakeholder events and meetings with authorities (as appropriate to role level).
  • Help coordinate project inputs from multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support and lead planning applications end‑to‑end (pre‑app, submission, post‑decision conditions).
  • Contribute to policy documents and feasibility studies to inform new/existing projects.
  • Use GIS/tools for site analysis and evidence‑based recommendations.
  • Monitor and report on application/appeal status; ensure timely actions across full project lifecycle.
  • Drive continuous improvement within the planning team, ensuring a culture of excellence and innovation.
