Principal Planning Officer
Essex
£50–£55 per hour (DOE)
9-Month Contract (Maternity Cover)
Office attendance once per fortnight

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Principal Planning Officer to join a Local Authority in Essex on a 9-month maternity cover contract.

This role offers the opportunity to take the lead on complex and major planning applications while supporting junior officers and contributing to high-quality development management outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Managing a caseload of major and complex planning applications

• Preparing detailed, high-quality committee reports

• Presenting at planning committee where required

• Mentoring and supporting junior members of the team

• Engaging with developers, stakeholders, and elected members

Requirements:

• Extensive UK Local Authority planning experience

• Proven track record handling major applications

• Strong report-writing and committee experience

• Ability to work autonomously at Principal level

• MRTPI desirable
