Principal Planning Officer

The role

We are looking for an experienced Principal Planning Officer to support our Development Management team on an initial 6-month contract, with the potential for extension.

You will manage a mixed caseload, ranging from complex minor applications through to small major developments, playing a key role in maintaining performance and supporting high-quality decision-making.

The role offers flexible hybrid working, with office attendance required once a week or once a fortnight, depending on operational needs.


Key responsibilities

  • Managing and determining a varied caseload including complex minor and small major applications

  • Preparing high-quality delegated and committee reports

  • Negotiating with applicants, agents and consultees to secure acceptable outcomes

  • Providing professional planning advice to councillors, stakeholders and the public

  • Contributing to appeals work where required

  • Supporting junior officers and helping maintain development management performance
