About the role
My client is seeking an experienced Principal Planning Policy Officer to join our Planning Policy team on a 12-month contract, with a specific focus on identifying, assessing and bringing forward housing sites to support plan-making and housing delivery.
This is a key role supporting the council’s response to housing need and national planning policy, working closely with development management, housing, regeneration and external stakeholders.
The post offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, with attendance in the office required once a fortnight.
Key responsibilities
You will:

Lead on the identification, assessment and allocation of housing sites, including SHLAA/HELAA-type work

Manage and assess site submissions from landowners, developers and agents

Prepare and contribute to Local Plan policies, evidence base documents and reports

Provide professional planning policy advice on housing supply, land availability and deliverability

Support public consultation exercises and stakeholder engagement

Work collaboratively with internal services, neighbouring authorities and external partners
