Associate Director – Planning

The Role
A highly regarded independent planning consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering successful development outcomes is seeking an Associate Director – Planning to join its leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced chartered planner to take on a senior role with influence across a varied range of project types and sectors.
You will work with a supportive leadership team, advising clients, shaping strategy, and making a real impact on project delivery from early inception through to consent.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, commercially focused planning advice across residential, commercial, infrastructure, and other project types.
- Develop and maintain long-term client relationships and a deep understanding of client needs.
- Lead on planning strategy, technical submissions, applications, and appeals.
- Undertake due diligence, research, and analysis to support planning recommendations.
- Negotiate with planning authorities and stakeholders throughout the planning process.
- Prepare and present clear, high-quality written reports.
- Participate in community engagement when required.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to more junior planners.
About You
- Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) with substantive planning experience in either the private or public sectors.
- Strong technical planning expertise with the ability to apply knowledge across varied project types.
- Proven ability to build and grow client relationships and support business development.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal), negotiation, and report writing skills.
- Confident, proactive, and able to work on your own initiative within a collaborative team.
- At least 7+ years post-qualification experience (flexible for exceptional candidates).
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
