Senior / Principal Ecologist – Local Authority (Devon)

A Devon-based local authority is seeking an experienced Senior/Principal Ecologist to provide expert ecological advice and support across planning and development projects.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide ecological advice on planning applications and development proposals

• Assess ecological reports (PEAs, EcIAs, HRAs, protected species surveys)

• Advise on biodiversity net gain, protected species, and habitat regulations

• Support policy, enforcement, and project delivery as required

Requirements:

• Significant experience in ecological consultancy or local authority ecology

• Strong knowledge of UK planning policy, wildlife legislation, and BNG

• Ability to work independently and provide clear professional advice

Contract details:

• £45–£50 per hour

• 6-month contract

• 18+ hours per week

• Flexible / hybrid working considered
