Shape the future of Charnwood – where innovation meets opportunity.

About us

Charnwood is a thriving borough of 180,000 residents, perfectly positioned between Leicester, Nottingham, and Derby. At its heart is Loughborough – a dynamic university town buzzing with energy, surrounded by charming towns and picturesque countryside.

We’re on the brink of something big. Our new Local Plan is nearly complete, setting the stage for ambitious growth through sustainable urban extensions, regeneration zones, and the UK’s largest science and enterprise park. With major housing and employment developments planned through to 2037, this is your chance to be part of a bold new chapter.

We’re also rolling out a Community Infrastructure Levy, a suite of Supplementary Planning Documents, and a cutting-edge Design Code.

Why Charnwood?

Because the future is happening here.

Join a welcoming, professional team that values teamwork and community

Engage with councillors, developers, and residents to deliver inclusive planning outcomes

Be part of a council that stands for transparency, integrity, and public service

About the Role

As Team Leader in Development Management, you’ll lead a talented group of Planning Officers at various career stages, helping deliver a high-performing, customer-focused planning service.

You’ll work across departments, with elected members and external partners, making a real impact on communities across Charnwood.

This is a pivotal role, responsible for overseeing planning decisions and driving performance. You’ll support the Group Leader, manage a team of Principal and Senior Planning Officers, and guide them through committee processes and career development. Occasionally, you may handle complex major applications under Planning Performance Agreements.

About You

Whether you’re stepping up in your career or bringing seasoned management experience, this role is ideal for someone who thrives on mentoring others, meeting deadlines, and delivering excellent service. There may be scope to support a management qualification such as ILM Level 5.

We’re looking for someone who’s self-motivated, a confident communicator, and passionate about team success. You’ll be proactive, solution-focused, and able to interpret plans and policies with clarity and purpose.

Please note: A valid UK driving licence and access to your own transport is essential for site visits across the borough.

What We Offer

Agile working – home and office flexibility

Generous leave (35.5–40.5 days including bank holidays, based on service)

     Christmas closure for most services

     Professional development opportunities

     Local Government Pension Scheme

     Free parking

We’re proud to be a Disability Confident Employer and hold the Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award. Our internal groups – Staff Forum, Health & Wellbeing Group, and Equality Working Group – ensure your voice is heard and your wellbeing supported.

Shape the future of Charnwood – where innovation meets heritage.
