This is your opportunity to help shape Old Oak and Park Royal, London’s largest Opportunity Area and one of the most exciting and ambitious regeneration projects in the UK. OPDC is one of only two of the Mayor of London’s Development Corporations and spans three London boroughs, the Park Royal industrial estate and is home to the new High Speed 2 and Elizabeth line station, the only place where these two major new rail lines meet. OPDC is leading the planning and regeneration of this emerging new district with the potential to deliver many thousands of new homes and jobs over the coming years.


About the role

OPDC has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join our Planning Team as a Construction Monitoring Manager on a permanent contract. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Planning Enforcement and Compliance as a senior member of the team and will initially assist with the development of OPDC’s Code of Construction Practice alongside appointed consultants.  This is a unique opportunity to shape how construction and development will be managed and monitored in one of London’s largest regeneration areas and ensure that resident’s amenity is protected while enabling the growth and delivering the homes and jobs in OPDC’s Local Plan. The successful candidate will also work with borough colleagues to bring forward a statistical information package to allow comprehensive tracking of key indicators for construction management within OPDC’s areas. 


What your day will look like

The successful candidate will lead on a range of construction management issues in the planning process, from pre-application to condition stage, including as assessment of site sensitivity and ensuring that timely engagement with the host borough, stakeholders is integrated into planning decisions.   The role also involves the undertaking comprehensive inspections of live sites with borough colleagues to assess construction practice against relevant policy and guidance. 


Skills, knowledge and experience

To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:

Appropriate qualification in construction management and eligibility for membership of the Construction Industry Training Board (CIOB) together with a record of continuing professional development.

Demonstrable experience of construction management and monitoring preferably in a local authority setting.

Good understanding of the working environment of a local planning authority and Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC). 

An understanding of the local, regional and national planning policy context and legislative framework, and construction monitoring standards and guidance. 

Excellent IT skills and the ability to track and monitor construction impacts.

GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
