Sector: Town Planning / Development Consultancy

Are you an ambitious Assistant Town Planner looking to grow your career with a highly regarded planning consultancy? Our client — a multi-award-winning, independent firm with a strong national presence — is looking to expand their Manchester team with a motivated and commercially aware planner.

About the Company

This planning and development consultancy has an excellent reputation for delivering thoughtful, creative, and commercially sound planning solutions. They work across sectors including residential, mixed-use, commercial, and strategic land, and pride themselves on fostering a collaborative, inclusive culture where every voice is valued.

You’ll be joining a close-knit, professional team of planners who work on projects across the UK, offering the opportunity to gain experience on high-profile developments from concept through to delivery.

The Role

As an Assistant Town Planner, you’ll support the preparation and management of planning applications, appeals, and policy representations. You’ll undertake research, contribute to client reports, and liaise with local authorities, consultants, and developers. This is a great opportunity to develop your technical knowledge and project management skills while being supported by experienced senior colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the preparation and submission of planning applications and appeals

  • Conducting site appraisals and policy research

  • Preparing planning statements and reports

  • Liaising with clients, local authorities, and external consultants

  • Assisting in the promotion of strategic land through the Local Plan process

About You

  • RTPI-accredited degree or master’s in Town Planning (or related discipline)

  • Ideally 6–18 months’ experience in a consultancy, developer, or local authority

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Enthusiasm for planning and a desire to progress toward RTPI chartership

  • Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package

  • Structured RTPI mentorship and support

  • Hybrid working model (typically 2–3 days in the office)

  • Exposure to high-quality, diverse projects

  • Genuine progression opportunities in a growing consultancy

If you’re looking for a supportive environment where you can learn, contribute, and progress — this is a fantastic opportunity to build your career in planning. Interested?
