Senior Planning Officer – Development Management
Location: Surrey
Salary: £39,500 to £45,200
My client, a Council in Surrey, is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Planning Officer to join their high-performing Development Management team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of a beautiful and diverse district, located in Surrey.
The Council is a Green Belt authority, home to two designated National Landscapes, and is deeply committed to preserving and enhancing the character of its rural and urban environments. Residents value the district’s stunning countryside, strong community spirit, and excellent location—and my client is confident you will too.
The Role
This is an ideal opportunity for a planning professional who is passionate about delivering high-quality placemaking through the Development Management system. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload and contribute meaningfully to the district’s growth and sustainability.
You’ll be supported by an experienced Planning Development Manager, but will also be expected to work independently and proactively. This role offers the chance to make a tangible difference to the lives of local communities and the natural environment, while further developing your planning career in a collaborative and supportive setting.
What’s on Offer
My client offers a dynamic and inclusive working environment, where your expertise will be valued and your professional development actively supported. Benefits include:
- Flexible/hybrid working (up to 3 days remote per week)
- Local Government Pension Scheme membership
- Professional subscription payment
- Discounted health scheme
- Flexi-time arrangements
- On-site parking and proximity to Oxted Station
- A vibrant social calendar including staff awards, quiz nights, and outdoor events
You’ll also benefit from regular internal communications and engagement initiatives, including Chief Executive briefings and Viva Engage for team connectivity.
Diversity & Inclusion
The Council is proud to foster an inclusive workplace culture, welcoming applications from all backgrounds, including BAME, LGBTQ+ communities, and all groups protected under the Equality Act. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
Local Government Reorganisation
Surrey is undergoing local government reorganisation, transitioning from a two-tier system to larger unitary authorities. While this may introduce future changes, the Council remains focused on delivering essential services and supporting staff throughout the process. Most roles, including this one, will continue to be vital and may offer expanded career opportunities within a larger organisation.
