A Local Authority in Essex is seeking a proactive and experienced Senior Planning Officer to join their Development Management team on a temporary basis for an initial 3-6 month period. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a growing authority with a varied caseload that includes complex planning applications and strategic development.
The Role
You'll be responsible for managing a wide range of planning applications, appeals, and pre-application enquiries-potentially including major schemes. The successful candidate will be confident in assessing planning issues in line with national guidance and local policy, balancing competing pressures, and delivering clear, robust recommendations.
Key responsibilities include:

Managing a caseload of planning applications and pre-application advice

Preparing and presenting high-quality delegated and committee reports

Handling appeals and representing the authority as needed

Analysing planning issues in the context of local and national policy

Engaging with stakeholders and contributing to the delivery of quality development
What You'll Need:

Strong background in Development Management within a local authority setting

In-depth knowledge of planning legislation and national policy

Experience dealing with complex planning matters, including major applications

Excellent report writing and analytical skills

Confidence in presenting cases at Planning Committee
