Temporary Assistant Planning Policy Manager (Maternity Cover)

The Council is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Temporary Assistant Planning Policy Manager to cover maternity leave. This fixed-term contract is for up to 12 months, on a full-time basis of 37 hours per week, with a competitive salary.
Join our friendly Planning Policy team at Riverside House, located in the heart of Rotherham, easily accessible by public transport and major motorways (M1 and M18). We offer a flexible hybrid working model, allowing you to balance office and remote work, along with a range of employee benefits. You will need to come into the office on some days and be able to travel around the borough.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation, adoption, and review of the Local Plan and supplementary planning documents.
- Implement the Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy to support infrastructure development.
- Maintain an up-to-date evidence base for the Local Plan, commissioning and managing external providers as needed.
- Contribute to the conservation and improvement of the Borough’s heritage through various strategies and reviews.
- Support parish councils in developing and adopting neighbourhood plans.
- Provide professional advice on planning policy and coordinate with neighbouring councils for regional policy alignment.
Qualifications and experience:
- A town planning qualification or equivalent, with eligibility for Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
- Experience with the Community Infrastructure Levy and infrastructure planning is desirable.
- Some experience in staff management would be an advantage.

Until 31st March 2026 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a monthly deduction from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure, those who experience a pay reduction will be awarded three additional days leave (pro rata for part-time).
