Location: West Midlands (Hybrid working available, 1/2 days on site the rest wfh)
Rate: £35-£45 an hour (Inside IR35)
Contract Length: 3–6 months (likely extension)

We’re seeking an experienced Conservation Officer to support a local authority on a contract basis. You’ll play a key role in protecting and enhancing the historic built environment, working with planning teams, councillors, and the public.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide expert advice on planning applications affecting conservation areas, listed buildings, and heritage assets

  • Assist with conservation area appraisals, boundary reviews, and management plans

  • Support the repair and reuse of listed buildings at risk

  • Contribute to heritage policy development and funding bids

  • Promote good conservation practice with developers, stakeholders, and community groups

What we’re looking for:

  • Background in building conservation, heritage, or historic environment work

  • Experience advising on conservation areas and listed buildings

  • Relevant degree (Town Planning, Architecture, Building Surveying, or Heritage-related subject)

  • Ideally, previous local authority planning/conservation experience

  • Able to work independently and manage deadlines
