About the Company
We are working with a respected and growing transport consultancy with an established presence across the Midlands and wider UK. The business provides specialist transport planning and infrastructure advice to a broad client base across residential, commercial, logistics, retail, education, healthcare, and mixed-use development sectors.
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of development-led work across the Midlands, the consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Transport Planner to join its Birmingham office and support the delivery of a wide range of high-profile projects.
The Role
As a Senior Transport Planner, you will play a key role in delivering transport planning projects from initial feasibility through to planning determination. You will work closely with developers, planning consultants, architects, and local authorities, providing commercially aware and technically robust transport advice.
You will be responsible for managing projects, preparing technical reports, and supporting junior team members while contributing to the continued growth of the Birmingham team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, and technical transport reports.
- Undertake junction capacity assessments using software such as Junctions 9, LinSig, PICADY, and ARCADY.
- Provide transport planning input into development feasibility studies and masterplanning projects.
- Liaise with local planning authorities, highway authorities, and project stakeholders throughout the planning process.
- Manage project delivery, including programmes, budgets, and client communication.
- Support and mentor junior members of the transport planning team.
- Attend client and stakeholder meetings.
- Promote sustainable transport strategies including active travel and public transport integration.
- Ensure the timely delivery of high-quality technical work in line with client expectations.
About You
We are keen to speak with candidates who have:
- A degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related discipline.
- Experience working within a UK transport planning consultancy or local authority environment.
- A strong understanding of the UK planning system and development planning process.
- Experience preparing Transport Assessments and Travel Plans.
- Working knowledge of Junctions 9, LinSig, PICADY, and ARCADY.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organisational and project management abilities.
- Experience supporting or mentoring junior team members.
- Chartered status or working towards chartership (CIHT, TPS, ICE, or similar) is desirable.
